Meet AJ!

Meet AJ!

AJ is the Employment Services Program Manager at DSC and a self-professed townie, who grew up in Urbana. AJ started his career at DSC in July of 2018, after working in retail management for several years. DSC was one of AJ’s customers and over the years built a relationship with DSC employees. With the many changes occurring in the retail industry, AJ stated that he was ready for a change and wanted to do something different. When an Employment Specialist position opened up, friends who work at the Bradley office, encouraged him to go for it, and he did. Since that time, AJ has transitioned into his current role as the Employment Services Program Manager at DSC where he works in the Employment Services Program with Annette Becherer. One of his responsibilities is overseeing community-based employment groups.

“I get to do a little bit of everything. I spend a lot of time in the community, I have great co-workers, I get to help people and it’s always different. Every day, I think to myself, ‘this couldn’t be more perfect.’ I have finally found what I want to do when I grow up,” AJ said regarding his role at DSC.

AJ has also been involved with the recent launch of the Crow at 110, a DSC venue located in Champaign midtown. While the site is not yet open to the public on daily basis, they will be hosting their fourth public event in a few weeks. On March 3rd, 3-5pm, the Crow at 110 will host a Spring Open House. Everyone is welcome and invited to attend. DSC artists will have their latest works on display and items will be available for purchase.

When he’s not working, AJ enjoys spending time with his family. He is a big Illini fan and he has a 9 lb. dog named Quinn. He also likes cooking and golf.
